One of Lidl’s busiest Donegal stores is to close for 10 weeks to allow for the completion of major building work.
The Donegal Town branch is currently undergoing a major extension and when finished, it will be one of the largest Lidl stores in the country.
The choice was made to close the store to facilitate a quicker opening of the new store, so to enhance the customer's shopping experience, and be open in time for the Christmas holiday period.
Once completed, the store is said to be one of the largest Lidl stores in Ireland. hopefully the little bit of land to the left of the site will house a brand new Cinema in the future. Who knows?
UPDATE! Building of the new Lidl Superstore.
A week after I took the images of the old Lidl store in Donegal Town being demolished, and work is well underway in erecting the new Superstore. After speaking with many people who may have thought the building that was built behind the old store was going to be a warehouse. This may not be so.
After looking at images of other Lidl Superstores across Ireland, this now looks to be half of what will be the entire store after completion. The image below was taken from the McCallion Group website here.
And judging by the columns already erected in the new Donegal Town, the new superstore may look something like the image below. Taken from the Lidl Facebook page here. This shows the Dunshaughlin Branch which opened in 2018.
I aswell as many other people are still hopeful for our new cinema. Fingers crossed.
UPDATED! 10th September 2020.
The new Lidl store in Donegal Town is coming on great. With only a month to go until the new store is supposed to open, the main building has been completely erected and the solar panels have been attached.
More images to follow. Keep checking in. :)
